An Oklahoma attorney with a high-profile presence in energy law, Duke Ligon handles matters related to the oil industry, as well as electric power, natural gas, mining, and minerals. He owns and manages the Mekusukey Oil Company, LLC, and serves on the board of Blueknight Energy Partners, LP, and Emerald Oil, Inc. Duke Ligon’s board responsibilities with Heritage Trust Company in Oklahoma City include serving on the Succession and Compensation Committees.
Mr. Ligon completed his JD at the University of Texas Law School in 1969 and subsequently served for two years with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Attaining a rank of captain in military intelligence, he also advised the South Vietnamese Infantry Division. He earned the Bronze Star for his service, as well as the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
He subsequently held administrative leadership positions with the Federal Energy Administration and the U.S. Department of the Interior Office of Oil and Gas. From 1975 to 1982, he was based in Houston and Washington, DC, as a partner with Bracewell & Patterson and member of the law firm’s management committee.
